About Us

The mission of Lake Wylie Children’s Choir is to offer quality vocal and musical instruction to young singers by providing the opportunity to develop their artistic abilities in a safe and positive learning environment, empowering them to succeed in music and in life.

Our artistic and educational goals are:

  • To learn diverse and quality choral literature

  • To offer performance opportunities

  • To give back to our community through the gift of music

Lake Wylie Children’s Choir is open to 5-13 year old voices who love to sing. Choir members learn musicianship, vocal technique and performance skills, and participate in concerts throughout the community

Rhonda Tyler is one of the choir directors of the Lake Wylie Children’s Choir and music educator at Crowders Creek Elementary School. At Crowders Creek Elementary School, Rhonda teaches general music for Pre-K to 5th grade students and directs the 2nd and 3rd choir and the 4th and 5th grade Honors Chorus.  Starting a community youth choir in the Lake Wylie area has been a dream of hers since moving here in 2020 and she is excited to partner with Mrs. Carla Ketchum in this opportunity.

Rhonda has experience teaching elementary, middle and high school choral and general music. She has directed several musicals, Madrigals, and Vocal Jazz Ensembles.  She has taught private piano and voice lessons.  Previous choirs under the direction of Rhonda have competed in choral festivals and received highest marks for performance.  In addition, students from her choirs have been chosen for the auditioned All-District and All-State Honors Chorus individually.  Rhonda has been a guest adjudicator for the All-District Festival and was selected twice to be a presenter for the arts national conference in Boston and Minneapolis.

Rhonda has a Bachelor of Science in Music Education and a Master of Education in Educational Organization and Leadership.  She is married to Drew Tyler and has two amazing kids.  They love spending time together on the lake and having movie night.  Rhonda also enjoys walking, running, and relaxing with a good book!

Dr. Carla Ketchum is an accomplished musician, professional harpist, music educator, and private lesson instructor based in Lake Wylie, SC. Carla is the founder of the Lake Wylie Children’s Choir and is excited to bring excellence in choral singing to young voices in the community. She is currently one of the PreK-5th grade music teachers at Crowders Creek Elementary School and has the pleasure to work with Mrs. Rhonda Tyler to teach general music to children. As an elementary music teacher, she works with over 1200 students and collaborates with the middle and high schools to bring the annual Clover Elementary Choral Festival to the community. She has also served in various choral conducting and teaching roles, directing singers of all ages.

Carla is a nationally recognized harpist, has performed with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, attended Aspen Music Festival, and has worked with professors at Julliard, Eastman School of Music, and the Munich Conservatory. Her parents, Wolfgang and Elizabeth Roth instilled in Carla the love of music as they were both lifelong musicians with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra and performed worldwide as the violin and harp Roth Duo.

Carla received her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Appalachian State University, her Master's degree from Queens University, and completed her Doctorate of Education at Liberty University. She is married to Andrew Ketchum, owner of AK Media in Lake Wylie, and loves raising six beautiful children in a small, family-oriented community. When she is not sharing her love of music with others, she enjoys spending time on the lake, hiking, and traveling anytime she can!
